Gents Seiko Pogue chronograph wrist watch, 1975
UK POSTAGE ONLY FOR THIS ITEM
Gents Seiko Pogue chronograph wrist watch, 1975.
In the early 1970s, NASA astronaut Colonel William Pogue was given the honour of crewing the first US space station, Skylab. Although the official watch of the mission was the Omega Speedmaster, Colonel Pogue bought himself a Seiko 6139 6000 series, Seiko’s first automatic chronograph. He liked the watch so much that he took it with him on the mission, alongside the Speedmaster, even though he had not sought NASA’s permission. Thus, the 6139 because the first automatic chronograph in space and is now known as the Pogue watch.
This particular watch has the 17 jewel 6139B automatic movement which is working nicely. The calibre 6139B was in production from 1972 until 1979. The coding on the back of this watch tells us it was manufactured in 1975.
The watch measures 41mm wide excluding the crown and buttons, and 41mm high. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition with just general light surface marking. Pepsi bezel. The lens is a later replacement.
The dial is in its original finish with original hour, minute and chronograph hand. The small red hand on the subsidiary dial is a later replacement. The day date feature is set by pushing the crown lightly to change the date and pushing it harder to change the day (a choice of days or Roman numerals).
Original bracelet but later replacement Seiko clasp. It currently fits a wrist of 18.5cm, and there is capacity on the clasp to make it approximately 2cm smaller. There is general surface scratching on the clasp.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
