Gents Omega Seamaster bumper automatic wrist watch

Gents Omega Seamaster bumper automatic wrist watch, 1958.
The watch has a 20-jewel calibre 501 bumper automatic movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 16,251,821 which dates it back to 1958.
Early automatic movements such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement. Later automatic watches have the fully rotational rotor.
The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the later winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped, and it is in good condition.
The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was.
The stainless steel case back has the Omega logo to the inside, along with the case reference 2846 9 SC which is correct for the calibre 501. The back of the watch carries the Seamaster name, and it also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.
The lens is in lovely condition.
The signed dial is in its original finish with cross hair detail. Some light freckling across the dial. Original hands which have some age related marking and centre seconds hand.
The watch has a vintage signed Omega strap with Omega clasp.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
