Gents 1970 Eterna-Matic 1000 automatic wristwatch
A gents 1970 Eterna-Matic 1000 automatic wristwatch.
The watch has a 1488K automatic movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 5,999,330 which dates it back to 1970.
The watch measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a luxuriously thick layer of gold has been applied to the fronts of the lugs and the bezel is solid 14ct gold. There is a little marking to the screw-on case back, where the back has been removed in the past, but overall the condition is very nice for a 1970 piece.
The winding crown has the five ball bearings logo. In 1948, Eterna introduced their automatic movement which contained five strategically placed ball bearings which made the movement very efficient and significantly reduced friction and resistance on the oscillating weight that wound the mainspring. This reduced the wear and tear on internal parts, increasing the watch’s accuracy and useful life. The watch was probably Eterna’s most famous and it was in fact so successful that Eterna adopted the image of five ball bearings as its corporate logo.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial, again with the five ball bearings logo, is in its original finish… there is some discolouration to the finish but still very easy to read the time. Quick set date (set by repeatedly pulling the crown).
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
