Gents 1963 Eterna-Matic wrist watch
A gents 1963 Eterna-Matic wrist watch.
The watch has a signed automatic movement, calibre 1412 UD which was first produced in 1958. The movement is working well.
The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and the front is in good condition. The case back has some marking, probably from an earlier thread through strap. The inside of the case back is signed with the Eterna name.
The lens is in nice condition with only the odd minor mark.
The dial is signed Eterna-Matic and has the five ball bearings Eterna logo. The dial has a nicely aged patina and original hands. The bezel under the lens would originally have had minute markers but these have faded over the years.
The dial has the five ball bearings logo. In 1948, Eterna introduced their automatic movement which contained five strategically placed ball bearings which made the movement very efficient and significantly reduced friction and resistance on the oscillating weight that wound the mainspring. This reduced the wear and tear on internal parts, increasing the watch’s accuracy and useful life. The watch was probably Eterna’s most famous and it was in fact so successful that Eterna adopted the image of five ball bearings as its corporate logo.
A new brown leather strap has been fitted.
