Gents 1960s Sekonda Strela 3017 Cosmonaut chrono
UK POSTAGE ONLY FOR THIS ITEM
Gents 1960s Sekonda Strela 3017 Cosmonaut chronograph / wrist watch.
The watch has a Poljot 3017 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. Sekonda and Poljot are the same company but Sekonda was the brand name used for the British market.
In 1959 the Strela 3017 watch was put into production. To enable this, the Soviet government pur-chased the tooling which was previously used to produce the Swiss Venus 150 chronograph move-ment. The Strela was a wrist chronograph with a stopwatch function and a 45-minute counter of minutes. For the first few years, the watch was exclusively designed and produced for the officers of the Air Force and the watches had to meet strict military specifications. Cosmonauts Pavel Be-liaev and Aleksej Leonov also used these watches when they became the first in the world to enter into the open space.
In 1965, the decision was taken to make the watches available to the general public.
This particular watch measures 36mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the buttons. The case is a combination of stainless steel and plated. It is in good condition with just light surface marking and light rubbing to the side, nothing serious at all. The winding crown is a later replacement.
The lens is in good condition.
The dial is in its original finish with original hands, two subsidiary dials (one for constant seconds and one to record up to 45 minutes), a telemeter, a tachymetre and outer minute markers.
The chronograph feature is operated by pressing the top button to start and stop, and the bottom button to re-set to zero. There is a little marking but nothing too serious at all. The chronograph feature should not be kept running constantly. If viewed closely or at certain angles, there is some fairly light marking to the dial.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
