Gents 1950s Omega Seamaster automatic watch Omega wristwatch watch %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A gents gold capped Omega Seamaster automatic wrist watch.

The watch has an automatic movement, calibre 501 with 20 jewels, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number of 16,071,614 which dates it back to 1958.

The watch itself measures 33.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. There are a few little marks to the capping but very acceptable for a piece from the 1950s.

Later Seamaster watches have the Seamaster logo to the case back but this particular watch is a little bit early for that and it is stamped rather faintly with the Seamaster name, together with the word Waterproof. As with any vintage watch, however, it should be kept away from water. The inside of the case back has the Omega triangular stamp together with the case reference 2846-2848 4SC which is correct for the calibre 501 movement. There is some surface scratching to the case back.

The winding crown has the Omega logo.

The signed dial is 18k gold and it has an attractive vertical stripe pattern (not picked up by the camera). Original dauphine shaped hands and centre seconds. There is very light surface marking to the dial but you have to look closely to see it, and a very small shallow indentation which barely shows. Originally the dial would have been signed with the Seamaster name but this has been cleaned off over the years.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company operates on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis which means that the international buyer is responsible for any import duties, taxes & customs which may be necessary to release an order from international customs. Tax and import duty varies from country to country so we recommend you check with your local tax office to see if any fees will be payable. All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
