Gents 18ct gold Riva wrist watch, 1940s
A gents 18ct gold 1940s Riva wrist watch from the Driva Watch Company.
Driva Watch Company was founded in 1924 in La Chaux-de-Fonds by the Hirsch family, an important and well established family in the world of horology. In 1929, with the onset of the depression, the company was declared bankrupt and it was one of the biggest bankruptcies within the watch making industry.
Driva left La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1938 and set up again in Geneva. The business traded successfully making many private label watches and they exported many watches to the United States.
This particular watch has a jewelled hand-winding movement which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 25mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the lugs. The case is 18kt gold and there are Swiss hallmarks on the back of the watch. The case is in lovely condition, just light surface marks but nothing detrimental at all.
The convex lens is in good condition.
The signed dial is beautifully detailed and is in lovely condition. The name Riva was registered by the Driva Watch Company when they were based in Geneva.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
This item is only available for purchase within the UK due to insurance restrictions. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
