A superb quality French box in exotic wenge wood, rosewood and ebony. The box has panels of wenge on each side which are crossbanded in rosewood and edged in ebony. The top has a very slight dome and a central medallion of quarter cut bur wenge. The box is in perfect condition which is testament to the maker as not a veneer has lifted or moved. The piece retains the original lock and hinges. The interior is vacant but shows no signs of a lining and it may have been purchased as an empty box. The box is a wonderful example of French craftsmanship at its best. C.1880
