Description:
This is a fine quality set of four sturdy Victorian style (reproduction) ash, elm & beech country farmhouse ladder back rush seated kitchen-dining chairs, circa 1970, in excellent original condition. The chairs boast five shaped horizontal splats, flanked by two upright supports featuring simple finials. The seats have been hand rushed and they are in good condition. The base of the chairs features lovely turned legs and a bulbous shaped stretcher to the front. The front stretcher is heavy and turned – a good sign of quality. The chairs feature twin turned side stretchers and a rear stretcher which ensures the chairs stand firm on the ground. All chairs are made from top quality ash and elm, and are firm and solid.
This design of chair was originally made in the Lancashire and Cheshire region of the North West of England, but was commonly known as a “Lancashire” chair. They were made for use in kitchens in simple country homes around the North West area during the time of the great mills in the Industrial Revolution.
The chairs exhibit a rich warm brown colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
These chairs would complement any home, especially the kitchen or dining room. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
