Finest Antique Papier Mache Card / Games Box
The most exquisite games box I have come across in many years. This early Victorian box is made from Papier Mache, beautifully shaped and smothered in gilded decoration in very good condition.
The top of the lid is beautifully hand - painted with a rural family scene including the dog laying at their feet. Once the box is opened, the fitted interior is revealed, in pristine condition looking like the day it was made over 150 years ago, with lavish gilding and enamelled decoration.
There are five removable lidded boxes, four for playing cards (we have put four packs in - they are not period cards but complete the offering. The longer shaped box in the centre is filled with gaming counters.
Magnificent in every way, this box remains in excellent condition. 12" x 12" x 2 3/4"
