Fine Giltwood Picture Frame In The Rococo Taste
A decorative giltwood picture frame of rectangular form, richly ornamented in the Rococo revival manner. The moulded structure features a subtly undulating outline, with a pronounced serpentine crest and base centred by finely carved cartouches. Each corner is adorned with asymmetrical foliate scrollwork, incorporating acanthus leaves, floral sprays, and trailing vine motifs, all executed in high relief.
The surface is finished in a warm, burnished gold tone, with variations in the gilding that accentuate the depth and movement of the carving. The inner sight edge is defined by a stepped moulding, providing a visual transition from the elaborate outer border to the picture aperture.
