Fine Aneroid Barograph By Short & Mason, London

A high-quality aneroid barograph, the lacquered brass mechanism mounted on a polished base and enclosed within a glazed case of ebonised wood with a metal (brass-mounted) frame and carrying handles. The instrument comprises a stack of evacuated aneroid capsules, their minute expansions and contractions in response to atmospheric pressure transmitted through a system of finely engineered levers to a recording arm with an ink stylus.
The stylus records onto a rotating drum fitted with a weekly barometric chart, calibrated in millibars, driven by an internal clockwork movement. A spirit level is incorporated to ensure accurate horizontal alignment. The lift-off glazed cover allows full visibility of the mechanism while affording protection.
The base plate stamped Short & Mason, London, a respected maker of precision meteorological instruments.
