Fine And Unusual Satinwood Tea Caddy
A really unusual and fine example of an early nineteenth century tea caddy. The caddy is of a bombe shape more usually associated with early tea caddies of the George II period. The caddy is in satinwood with a beautiful figuring with burs, there is a dramatic contrast with flame mahogany used on the very top, the inlaid escutcheon and the base. The caddy sits on the original turned boxwood bun feet. The interior is completely original with lining paper, and has two compartments with lids of either bur elm or ash. The box has a working key and the whole has a wonderful patina and colour. There has been a knock on the lefthand corner of the lid but that is the only slight negative in what is a most unusual and charming tea caddy. C.1840.
