The famous Coty 'Sleigh Bells' compact as seen in Laura M Mueller's 'Collector's Encyclopdeia of Compacts, Carryalls & Face Powder Boxes'. This compact was made in they hey day of American novelty compacts. A high quality novelty compact in very good condition, it is very well made & totally adorable. All the 'sleigh bells' are securely in place the red enamel still vibrant & attractive. The lid & base have striking engine turned designs. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives an excellent reflection, a few age related marks on the mirror - but nothing that would spoil the enjoyment of this beautiful compact. The inner case is a rich deep golden colour with the original signed Coty rouge puff. the whole interior is decorated with a pretty engine turned design of tiny diamond shapes. The base is signed 'COTY NEW YORK'.
Reflecting Coty's standing in the high quality cosmetic/vanity stakes the compact has been placed on the advertisement for it placed in Vogue (1942).
