Extremely Rare 18th c. Sundial Nomon with makers name
The Sundial has an engraved latitude of 54 degrees 54 mins which is on a line from Newcastle to Carlisle, makers name appears as I. S_MPTON, date is inscribed 1713.
It has a coat of arms which appear to be 3 Greyhounds.
The inscribed motto is “Ex hoc Momento Pendit Eternitas” translates to “On this moment hangs eternity”
The compass rose has a lubber mark at the “N” point.
The dial includes an extra scale giving the times of sunrise and sunset throughout the year.
It is rubbed and the engraving is difficult to read in parts, as you can see from the photographs there is damage to one of the corners where it has been taken from the stone stand.
