Excellent 6" Wheel Barometer, Abraham, Bath.
Jacob Abraham, Bath. c.1825-30.
A superb 6" dial rosewood wheel barometer of the best quality, c.1830. The case is the highest quality workmanship of the period, the use of rosewood veneers outlined with 6 lines of tulip wood, ebony and boxwood banding, fitted with a detachable bow fronted thermometer, level, hygrometer and ebonised 'swan neck' pediment. The well engraved and silvered 6" dial sits behind a convex glass fitted within a cast brass bezel. The silvered level plate is engraved with the makers name 'Abraham, Optician, Bath'.
Jacob Abraham was working in Bath from 1805 to 1841. He also had premises in Cheltenham. He is listed as an important Maker and was Instrument Maker to the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Wellington.
