Elgin – 9ct Full-Hunter Pocket Watch – 1912
Make an elegant statement with an antique gold pocket watch, perfect for evening wear or other occasions. Also tells the time!
An early 20th Century – gold, hunting-cased, keyless-wind, pocket watch. The outer case is engine-turned thoughout and has a vacant shield and sash cartouche to the front. The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals and minute markers with a susidiary seconds-dial at six o'clock with Arabic numeral markers at ten-second intervals. The inside of front cover carries the imprint - "Keystone USA 9K" and a copyright mark in a cartouche and the case number 5285393, also full English hallmarks for 9ct gold - Chester import, 1912 and maker'/sponsor's mark case Chester import 1912, Marc Alfred Holland. The hallmarks, maker's mark and case number are repeated inside the outer back case as well as the inside back inner case (no date letter), which also bears the legend "Guaranteed 9K 375 fine The K.W.C. Co". The movement is signed: "Elgin Nat'l Watch Co. U.S.A." and the movement number: "18308462". Beside the chased balance cock "seven jewels" is marked. The pendant bale also carries the slightly worn mark "9 375". Overall 67mmx50mmx13. Weight 82g.
The watch is in good working order and has been tested continuously for two weeks for good time-keeping (as a mechanical watch), but has not been serviced and I cannot guarantee it for a period of time. No damage to the dial. Adjustment, winder, hinges and catches function well. All hallmarks are clear, but there are clear signs of use to the case, in particular, minor deformations and shallow scratching to the covers and around the back case inner and outer openings. More photos available
I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.
I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
