Early George II Inlaid Tea Caddy with Original Can
This is a lovey and rare example of an early George II (1740-1750) tea caddy. Unusually, this tea caddy has all of its internal metal canisters in tact and in good condition as most tea caddies of this age have had them lost or replaced by the Victorians. And in addition, the tea caddy is unusual as it has a thin banded design at the bottom which is rare for a tea caddy of this age and signifies a higher end box of the time.
The caddy has a central panel of flame mahogany to each side with box wood and ebony inlays around the panels, these are surrounded with cross bandings of mahogany. The caddy has a moulded edge to the rim of the lid and is raised on four ogee feet. One the lid and sides, the tea caddy has the original brass handles. The lock is original as is the key. This would be a lovely addition to any home or given its condition and rarity, to a collection.
Width: 11 inches
Height: 7.5 inches
Depth: 6 inches
