Large distressed painted wooden sign for the defunct Hertfordshire brewers Benskins c.1930. Prominent ebonised architectural cornice and moulded softwood frame with gilded inner frame and lettering. Great character, evocatively worn and faded by age and weather. Benskins, founded in 1693 and based in Watford rose to become Hertford’s largest brewer before being taken over by Ind Coope in 1957.
