Decorative Brass Cigarette Box, Kinco, c.1923-39

This is an attractive square Brass Cigarette Box with a Cedar Wood lining. The box stands on four bun feet and has an intricate floral design around the four sides of the body. The lid has a central roundel surrounded by four birds and floral panels. The inside of the lid has a textured gold lining.
The box was made in Kingston, Surrey as part of the KINCO range and dates to the 1920s/30s. KINCO was the trademark of the firm British Metal (Kingston) Ltd, who were based in Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey and later in St Margarets near Twickenham. Between 1923 and 1939 they produced a wide range of distinctive decorated brass ware of very high quality drawing inspiration from Egyptian, Persian, Indian and Chinese designs, which were hand coloured and then lacquered. In 1939 the firm converted completely to war work and never returned to decorative brass items.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, a nice patina and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cigarette box is 9cm / 3.5ins square and stands 4.6cm / 1.8ins high. It weighs in at 179.7g / 6.34oz.
The box still has its original KINCO sticker on the underside of the base saying Genuine KINCO, Made In England, Dust Only.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
