Crystal Butter Dish w/ Silver Butter Knife, 1930
Here we have an attractive cased George V Cut Crystal Butter Dish with a Sterling Silver Butter Knife. The butter dish has leaf cuts around the body and a large daisy type flower cut into the base. The silver butter knife is plain with a trefid finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind making this ideal as a gift.
The set is made in Sheffield by / for Roberts & Dore and dates to 1930. Thomas Roberts & James Dore began their partnership in Sheffield in 1908 before moving to a showroom in London's prestigious Hatton Garden district in 1912. They continued to manufacture silver in Sheffield but also bought in items from other suppliers. The butter knife would've been made by them but the crystal butter dish would've been bought in.
Copndition is extremely good with no chips or cracks in the glass and no dings or dents to the silver knife. The box just has a small scuff mark on the lid with the hinges and clasp in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter dish is 9cm / 3.5ins square and stands 2.5cm / 1in high. The butter knife is 11.3cm / 4.4ins long and by itself weighs in at 9.7g / 0.34oz of solid Sterling Silver. The dish and knife together, uncased, weigh 296.3g / 10.4oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the butter knife, are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter n for 1930 and the R & D makers' mark for Roberts & Dore.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
