Crewe Arms Hotel Vesta
Crewe Arms Hotel
Vesta
Some of the original gold plating remains especially on the inside.
The hotel was originally built as the station hotel for the Grand Junction Railway in 1837[1] and passed into the ownership of the London and North Western Railway on its formation in 1846. Queen Victoria became a regular visitor to the Crewe Arms Hotel when she stayed overnight on her journey to her summer holidays in Scotland. The hotel then came into the ownership of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1922. Following nationalisation of the railways it became part of the portfolio of the British Transport Hotels in January 1948. Since 1968, it has been passed through the hands of quite a few non railway companies.
Approximate dimensions: 48mm x 32cm, weight 10.9cm.
This late 19th/early 20th century is a memento from the times when many railway passengers used the hotel opposite the station in Crewe as an overnight stay on long railway journeys.
