Chinese hand carved giltwood wall plaque, C1900
A superb Chinese late 19th century carved giltwood deep relief circular wall plaque.
This very fine piece of Chinese wall art is deeply hand carved. It shows a continuous scene of fighting warriors on horseback, a scholar seated in a temple, and numerous other figures amongst the trees and landscape all of which have been meticulously hand carved with fine three dimensional detail and finished with rich gilding.
The plaque probably originates from the Canton region of China where this type of fine carving was a speciality.
The plaque is in excellent original condition. The gilding shows a lovely age related patina.
On the reverse, the plaque is signed with carved character marks. In addition, there is also an old brass wire for hanging.
Height 28cm x width 28cm x depth 5cm
