This is a red lacquered and gilt decorated leather pillow box, Chinese late 19th century. Gilt panels showing figures in a landscape appear on the front with the decoration, albeit now faint, extending to the sides. The box is fitted with a tarnished metal lock and side handles.

Dimensions: Width 37 cm, Depth 12 cm, Height 13 cm

Condition: Good condition though the lid is completely separated from the base, the leather having split neatly along the hinge line. The gilt decoration is partly rubbed in places though generally good on the front.
