Very Rare 1881 Carved Meerschaum "Hand Holding Skull" Pipe by Monsieur J Sommer PARIS Casedin Original Case.
This is without doubt one of the nicest and rarest Meerschaums out there, it is modelled as Skull being held within an outstretched hand/arm, with fantastic detail, which is a pipe rather than a cheroot holder, the actual chamber was never attached, although the fitted case does allow for one. In its original leather case. It is without doubt a museum quality piece. Ive put the details of Monsieur J Sommer below.

No chips, no cracks to the bowl - overall great order.
The stem as per photo would require some attention, but can easily be repaired.
I have not tried to clean, or mess with this pipe, it is exactly as I acquired it.

Please note that the pipe has been smoked and is in USED condition.

Dimensions:
- Overall length 12.5 cm
- Height of bowl 4.1 cm
- Diameter at top of inner/tobacco chamber. 1.2 cm
- Diameter at top of Outer/tobacco chamber. 3.4cm

Monsieur J Sommer was a multi GOLD medal winning meerschaum carver. The firm offered meerschaum pipes in many styles, including classic shapes with custom monograms and figural pipes of skulls, elephants, and many other traditional shapes.
