C1860 Chinese Canton lacquer sewing box
A fine Chinese Canton export sewing box of octagonal form.The box is made of wood that has been lacquered and decorated in two tone gold and pale red oriental scenes. It is decorated with various scenes/stories all the way round the piece. Contains nearly all its original bone fittings of fretwork, thread boxes, clamp, thimble and many other sewing accessories.The top compartment lifts out. The lower compartment I would imagine would be used for storing silks, threads, knitting wools, darns etc.
Please dont one of the pieces of wood has started to come away and would require a little attention as per the photo. This isnt something I know much about, I sore it and fell in love. So hopefully someone else will also.
