This is an antique copy of Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect by Robert Burns. A Scots English language hard bound poetry book, dating to the Georgian period, published 1813.
Celebrated world-wide and considered Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns (1759 - 1796) -affectionately known as Rabbie - was a prolific poet and lyricist in the 18th century. Credited as a main player in the Romantic movement of arts, his works in a light Scots dialect afford him an audience outside of Scotland's borders. A cultural icon, remembered with his own day each year on his birthday (25th January) and sculptures across the world, Robert Burns is a titan of the poetic form. His song Auld Lang Syne became a New Year's tradition and his body of works are studied in academia to this day.
Presented in a fair to good antique condition with time-worn cover, but intact pages
