Beautiful 19th C. Oval Oil Painting Young Girl
We are pleased to offer this beautiful Oval Portrait Oil on Canvas laid to board. The painting depicts a very pretty little girl with fair, shoulder length hair tied up with a bow on the top of her head. She is wearing a black dress with white collar and over it, a wine coloured pinafore. The painting is by a very talented unknown artist and is extremely appealing!
The painting bears a red framers label for George A. Rose, 23 Pelham Street, London S.W.7. (at this address 1913-1940) where it was last framed.
Image size: 21" x 16 1/2" - 53.35cm x 41.9cm
Frame size: 23 5/8" x 19" - 60cm x 48.25cm
Medium: Oil on canvas laid to board
Condition: Very good. The surface is clean and there is no paint loss. Please note that on a couple of the photos there is a white line across the red pinafore towards the bottom of the oval, but this is not a scratch or missing paint, it is simply the light catching the edge of the canvas which the artist added to the sides, the bottom and the very top, of what was previously a rectangular picture to make it into an oval. To our mind, this is part of the charm of the work. Perhaps the artist, either he or she, felt that the subject needed more space around her to do her justice. The frame is in very good condition for its age.
