Artist's / Watercolour Box by G. Rowney c.1870
A truly exquisite example of a Victorian Mahogany Artist's paint box made from Mahogany with cut brass inlaid plaque to lid with complimentary escutcheon and the flush drawer pull to the front. The box comes with the working key.
The box opens to reveal a really splendid original label to the inside of the lid "Colours For Heraldic & Missal Painting G. Rowney & Co. London Designed and Lithographed by M H Long.
The box contains an array of original glass lidded pots of tincture with lovely original labels with the addresses of their two London shops at 52 Rathbone Place and 29 Oxford Street. (chips to pots, mentioned for accuracy). There are two lovely bottles, Liquid Gum and Enamel White with Fruitwood lids. The glass water bowl in the centre is original impressed G R & Co.
The brass pin is removed to allow access to the drawer below revealing a wonderful signed ceramic palette and some original papers, a rare find.
Dating to the Victorian era, around 1870 it remains in superb condition measuring 9 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 4" tall.
