Art Deco Style Chrome "Aristocrat" Cigarette Box
This is a striking Art Deco style chrome cigarette box which most probably dates to the 1950s, although it could be earlier. The box has an engine turned top with a classic Art Deco "Odeon" style blank cartouche. It comes in its original outer box, which is in good condition.
The cigarette box is part of the "Aristocrat" range, which was the trade mark of Harman Brothers of Birmingham. They were founded after World War One and continued in business up until the mid-1960s. The "Aristocrat" range was principally smoking related items which they produced in silver, EPNS and chrome.
Most of the boxes Harman Brothers produced between the wars were on raised angular feet, whereas those produced after WW2 were primarily on half bun feet, which is why we believe this one is from the 1950s. However the "Odeon" style cartouche is more typical of their 1930s boxes so it could be either.
The cigarette box is in great condition with no dings or dents and no plate loss apart from a tiny amount on the bottom of the feet. The cedar wood lining is in excellent condition as is the "goldtone" on the inside of the lid. It is very rare to have a box like this still in its original outer box. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The box is 16.5cm wide, 8.7cm deep and 3.5cm high.
