Antique Zenith silver pocket watch and chain
An antique Zenith silver pocket watch with chain and later box.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Zenith name and the serial number 2,021,560 dates it back to 1915/16. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover upon which are engraved details of the movement and also of trade medals won in exhibitions.
The watch itself measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver, with Swiss silver marks inside the case back, with a rose gold wash around the edge... this is known as a galonne case. Overall the case is in good condition with just a little rubbing to the wash on the side of the watch, and the odd minor mark, but nothing too detrimental at all. The inside of the hinged case back has the early Zenith logo.
The watch has a later acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The signed dial is in good condition and the ornate hands are a charming feature. This style of watch with the galonne case and ornate hands was very popular in the Scandinavian countries in the early 1900s.
The watch comes with a single silver albert which measures 31cm long including the T-bar and the clasp, hallmarked for 1919. Also included is a silver fob with rose gold wash detail. There is engraving on the back of the fob from when it was awarded in 1925.
The watch comes in a much later Zenith presentation box.
