Antique Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch & chain
Antique Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a good quality 17-jewel stem-winding movement, P S Bartlett grade, with Breguet hairspring and Church 1885 patent regulator. The movement is gilded with the one plate having been polished back at some stage. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 15029710 dates it back to 1906.
The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.
The watch measures 53mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop so very slightly larger than a 50mm standard pocket watch. The case is gold filled and was made for Waltham by the Canadian company the American Watch Case Company.
The case is in good condition, originally there would have been a detailed image to the screw-on case back but this has worn down over the years with just traces left now.
The acrylic lens is in good condition.
The signed dial has two short hairlines just underneath the subsidiary seconds dial, not too noticeable to the naked eye. Blued steel hands, inner 24 hour dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes with a single chain, 34cm long.
