This is an antique travelling trader’s altar. An Oriental, carved teak folding display stand, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870. A fascinating example of campaign-style furniture, showcasing superb craftsmanship and ornate carved detail.
Profusely carved craftsmanship, displaying remarkable artistry and cultural symbolism
Select teak stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues throughout
Superb altar top with a distinctive shield-shaped centre, surrounded by ornate corner carvings
Corners feature dragon and symbolic motif carvings, rich with Eastern iconography
Fascia adorned with relief-carved dragons, adding bold visual texture and mythological appeal
