Antique Swiss half hunter pocket watch, 1913
Antique Swiss half hunter pocket watch, 1913.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Edward for the original retailer Edward & Sons, listed as diamond and gem merchants, goldsmiths and silversmiths, watch, antique clock and chronometer makers of 92 Buchanan Street, Glasgow. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some scratching.
The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London (import mark), London 1913, with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
The case has the odd small mark, nothing too serious at all. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by Roman numerals.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover, which then is opened using your thumb. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The dial is signed Edward, Glasgow. It is in lovely condition, just a small chip to the edge by number 3, barely noticeable to the naked eye. Blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
