Antique silver Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch
Antique silver Waltham P S Bartlett hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a 17-jewel stem-winding movement, P S Bartlett grade, which is working nicely. This is a good quality movement with Church 1892 patent regulator, Breguet hairspring for enhanced precision and nicely patterned plates. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 20301915 which dates it back to 1915.
The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50.6mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and has Birmingham hallmarks for 1925 with the case makers mark for the Dennison Watch Case Company. The Dennison Watch Case Company made most of the cases for Waltham UK. The case has engine turned detail to both the front and back which has some age related rubbing, the case back has a couple of small “dings” but overall it is in nice condition for a 1920s watch. The small central lens is surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals.
The movement is later to the watch although correct and very close in date.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover.
Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The signed double sunk dial is in good condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. The watch has the proper half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
