Antique silver "PSA" watch fob, 1902

Silver watch fob/medal.
These fobs were used to decorate a gentleman's watch chain. They were also frequently engraved and awarded as sporting trophies.
This particular fob has the legend "PSA" cast in the design. The previous owner thought, from their research, that this stood for "Polite Sunday Afternoon". Our research indicates it may be something to do with Public Service Associations.
The fob has not been personalised/engraved.
The fob is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1902, and the maker A J & S, each letter/character being a separate punch. We have not been able to identify who this maker is.
The hallmarks are all crisp and clear.
The fob is 3 cm (1.25") by 3.5 cm (1.5"), excluding the suspension ring. It weighs 9 grams.
All measurements are approximate.
The fob is in overall good condition, with surface scratches commensurate with age.
Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
Selling price includes free UK postage. For other countries, please contact us for a quote.
