Antique Silver Pocket Watch And Chain
Antique silver pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. It is all protected by an inner hinged dust cover.
The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside two case backs for London (import mark), 1911 with an importer's mark for George Stockwell.
From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
The case has engine turned detail to the hinged case back with a central vacant cartouche. The bezel has a little unevenness in places and there are some surface scratches to the back although they show more in the photo than they do in real life.
The watch glass is in good condition, as is the lens. Pin-set blued steel hands (one is a replacement but still antique), a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes with a single silver chain, 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Hallmarked for 1924 with a maker's mark for the Liverpool factory of Joseph Sewill. The same marks can be seen on the clasp and on one of the links, together with a good clear silver lion mark on each of the links.
