Antique silver Longines pocket watch, J W Benson

1 of 5
Antique silver Longines pocket watch, J W Benson.
The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. This is a Longines movement, calibre 18.79 or 18.69, which is working nicely. The movement carries the Longines serial number 1,997,949 which dates it back to 1906.
The movement also carries the patent number 16831 which relates to an 1898 patent in the name of Charles Brisebard of Besançon, this patent was subsequently assigned to Longines.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which states that the watch was examined by J W Benson of London. There is some scratching to this inner cover.
The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are Continental hallmarks inside both of the case backs, together with British hallmarks for London 1907. There is also a maker’s mark for J W Benson, and a mark for Alfred Baume of Baume & Co, importers of Longines watches to the UK and the Commonwealth. The front bezel and case back are in good condition, just minor marking. The side of the case has quite a lot of unevenness.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial has pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There are some faint hairlines radiating from number 2 but not too noticeable to the naked eye.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
