Antique silver IWC Probus Scafusia pocket watch

Antique silver IWC Probus Scafusia pocket watch.
The watch has a good quality stem-winding movement, with Breguet hairspring and screw set jewels, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the IWC Probus Scafusia emblem, Probus Scafusia is a Latin phrase mean ‘good, solid craftsmanship’, a motto registered in 1903.
The movement also carries the serial number 505557 which dates it back to around 1910, together with the brevet number 31457 which relates to a 1904 patent for ‘device for limiting the winding of barrel watch movements’.
This particular watch was made for the German market, hence the letters V and N on the regulator for Vorrücken and Nachlassen (faster and slower).
The movement is protected by an inner cover which a little scratching where it has been opened in the past.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver and there are German / Continental marks inside both of the case backs, together with the IWC Probus Scafusia emblem.
The case has rose gold wash detailing around the edge of the case back and bezel and, unusually, it is still in lovely condition… so often this has worn off over the years. Nice crisp engine turned detail to the back and a central vacant cartouche.
The glass lens has small marks across it.
The dial is in beautiful condition with original pin-set ornate hands, outer minute markers with red numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
