Antique silver Ingersoll Trenton pocket watch
Antique silver Ingersoll Trenton pocket watch.
Ingersoll was a very popular brand at the latter end of the 1800s selling $1 watches by mail order. By 1899, their production totally some 8000 watches per day, and in 1901 Ingersoll advertised that their $1 watches were sold by 10,000 dealers across the USA and Canada. Their advertising slogan was "The Watch that Made the Dollar Famous." Ingersoll purchased the Trenton Watch Company in 1908.
A 1911 advert for Ingersoll Trenton watches quoted… “The 15-jewel Ingersoll Trenton movement is as beautiful a watch as any man may need ask for. Its precision is more than most men require. It will give a full generation of faithful service and with the superior patterns and choice designs of Ingersoll Trenton cases it makes an irresistible gift for a man.”
This particular watch has a good quality stem-winding movement with patterned plates, a swan neck regulator and a Breguet hairspring for enhanced precision. The movement is signed Ingersoll Trenton and it has the serial number 3316546 which dates it back to between 1900 and 1905.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1925 with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison.
The hallmark and movements dates vary in date which confirms that the movement and case are not original to each other.
The case is in very nice condition. The back of the watch has very ornate initials.
The glass lens is in good condition with just light marking, nothing too detrimental at all.
The dial is signed with the IT mark for Ingersoll Trenton. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There are a couple of hairlines to the dial.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
