Antique Silver Half Hunter Wrist Watch
Antique silver half hunter wrist watch.
The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, identified as being manufactured by the Swiss ebauche (blank movement) maker Adolf Schild. On a full wind, the watch goes for around 23 hours, keeping good time to within around five minutes.
The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the front and back hinged covers for London 1917 with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell.
From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
Overall, the case is in good condition for such an early piece, just some unevenness to the back of the watch.
The front cover has a small central lens which is surrounded by enamel filled numerals. The front cover is opened by pressing the small button in between the bottom lugs. Inside, the lens is in good condition.
The enamel dial has short hairlines radiating from number 10 and some nibbles to the perimeter but these are covered by the inner bezel.
A later leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
