Antique silver English Watch Co pocket watch English silver full hunter %%alt5%%
Antique silver English Watch Co full hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is hallmarked for 1878 with a maker’s mark for Robert Bragge, together with the mark for the English Watch Company.

In 1874, William Bragge took over the Anglo-American Watch Company from Aaron Dennison (of the Dennison Watch Case Company). He traded for several years before handing the business over to his son Robert. The business continued to trade until 1895 when competition from Swiss watch manufacturers saw the company go into voluntary liquidation.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and both of the outer covers carry the same hallmarks as the inner cover. The front cover has ornate initials while the case back has an image of a heron in the reeds. The case is in good condition, just a couple of minor “dings” but nothing serious at all.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.

The dial is in super condition and has pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
