Antique S Smith & Son 'The Charing' pocket watch
Antique S Smith & Son 'The Charing' pocket watch.
The watch has a 16-jewel 3/4 plate stem-winding movement which is working well. The movement is signed S Smith & Son, 9 Strand, London. Watchmakers to the Admiralty together with the name, 'The Charing'. S Smith & Son were one of the largest retailers of precision and technical pocket watches of the period.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and is the Star model made by the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific supplier of cases to many UK watch makers. The case is in nice condition with just some surface marking but nothing too serious at all.
The watch glass lens is in nice condition.
The signed dial has several faint hairline cracks and an old repair to the bottom of the sub seconds dial although not over noticeable to the naked eye. Original blued steel hands.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
