Antique Open-Faced Silver Dial Fusee Pocket Watch.
Fabulous and high-quality, Victorian open-faced silver dialled fusee pocket watch, by master watchmaker Arthur Cotton, of 11 Kent Street, Birmingham, (then Warwickshire).
Born in 1838, Cotton came from a well-documented family dynasty of much respected Birmingham watchmakers, a dynasty that continued into the early nineteen-hundreds.
• Silver hallmarked London 1880.
• Silver dial and subsidiary second’s dial, with an inner engine turned flinqué style Guilloché pattern.
• Gold outer garlanded ring, with hand-rendered and engraved central gold and silver floral decoration.
• Raised Gothic style gold Roman numerals.
• Original blued hands.
• Cotton signed fusee movement with compensated balance and ruby end stone.
• Engraved Coventry ‘Star’ mark on the regulator scale, (the endorsement of exceptional engineering quality!)
• Case maker was William Richard Bishop (“W.R.B”), of Hill Street, Coventry.
• Case and movement serial numbers are the same: “12807.”
• Comes with a winding key, together with instructions on how to wind and set the watch time.
