Antique Omega pocket watch with rare blue dial.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement, signed Omega on the regulator, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is signed with the Omega name, together with details of medals won at the Paris Grand Prix in 1900.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver and there are Continental hallmarks inside both of the case backs, together with the early Omega logo. Originally there would have been a rose gold wash around the bezel, centre section and edge of the hinged case back but most of this has worn off over the years, which is quite normal in this style of case which is known as galonne. Galonne style watches were very popular in the Scandinavian countries in the early 1900s. The case is in good condition, just a couple of minor “dings” to the back, but they are small.

The glass lens has light marking but nothing too serious.

The dial is fully signed and its original finish which, unusually, is midnight blue. This is only the second Omega pocket watch we have ever had with this colour of dial. Ornate hands (one is a period replacement), again part of the galonne style, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track with 24 hour numbers. There is a 1cm scratch but not too detrimental when viewed with the naked eye.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
