Antique Napoleon III Liquor Cellar, French


This is an antique Napoleon III liquor cellar. A French, ebonised Rosewood liqueur box with fitted interior and cut glass decanters, dating to the early 19th century, circa 1830.

Displays a desirable aged patina
Deep ebonised Rosewood provides a striking ground upon which, inlaid detail adds fine interest
Cut glass decanters and set of glasses of high quality - some signs of use present to glasses
The whole secured by a double-throw inset working lock — key present
A brass lock escutcheon sits at the base of a profusely detailed inlaid shield design
Boulle work with brass and Mother of Pearl inlay is of master craftsman quality
Upon opening, the hinged lid rests neatly above the case interior
This fitted interior can be removed by way of an ornate gilded handle
A quartet of glass decanters in good order sit between two tiers of drinking glasses
Sixteen glasses in total, three of which are later replacements
The lower tier smoothly extends outwards for ease of access
This is a beguiling antique Napoleon III liquor cellar, with exquisite boulle work detail and clear, bright glass. A considerable party piece, as useful today as it was nearly 200 years ago and sure to delight guests. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for a soiree.
