Antique London Police Whistle, English, Brass

This is an antique London police whistle. An English, silvered brass patented whistle by J Hudson and Co of Birmingham, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920.
J. Hudson & Co is a long established and ongoing manufacturer of whistles under the ACME name. Holding several patents, in 1884 Hudson created a pea whistle to help policemen with their alerts, as rattles were not able to produce enough noise. A demonstration at Scotland Yard gained the company its first contract. The company's growth saw them supply their whistles to several police forces and the RMS Titanic.
Fascinating example, this one being for the City of London Police Reserve
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good, working order
Silvered brass presents fine tonality and decorative appeal
Loop to patented two-piece top ideal for attaching chains or leather straps
Engraved The Metropolitan Patent to the upper section, with maker's address below
The patent number 5727-08 was issued in 1908
Address given as 244 Barr Street, Birmingham, moving to this site in 1909
