Antique Hardwood-Cased Bone & Bamboo Mahjong Set
A lovely antique Boxed Mahjong Set dating to the early 20th C.
Brass-mounted hardwood (possibly rosewood) case, with twin brass carrying handles and 5 drawers.
The top 4 drawers each hold 36 bamboo and bone playing pieces (144 in total) as illustrated. The larger bottom drawer contains a substantial number of bone counting 'chips', 4 spare blank tiles, a sweet little wooden box with sliding lid containing the original 4 little dice, and a small bakelite pot containing 4 counters with chinese characters. The set is completed by a comprehensive instruction booklet, "How To Play and Score", published by J.Jacques & Son Ltd of London.
We are not experienced Mahjong players but comparing similar sets, this set seems to be 100% complete.
Generally in very good antique condition commensurate with age and use. There are slots for a front sliding panel which is no longer present. This does not affect the use of the set.
A lovely example of these increasingly rare sets, which has somehow remained intact for 100 or so years!
Size ~ 240 x 165 x 165mm. Weight ~ 3.6kg.
Free delivery with 20 miles of Leeds. Satisfaction Guarantee & Returns Policy.
Returns are accepted within 7 days. A full refund will be given provided the item is received in the same condition as when sold. Buyer is responsible for return postage/shipping costs, appropriate packaging and insurance.
