Antique gun metal Doxa pocket watch with chain.

Doxa (Georges Ducommun, Fabriques Doxa) was founded in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland. Mr Ducommun was well respected in the horological world and in the 1920s was elected vice president of the International Horology Group and president of the Swiss Horology Association at the International Exhibit of the Decorative Arts in Paris.  In 1936 control of the company was taken over by his son-in-law Jacques Nardin, grandson of Ulysse Nardin, the famous watchmaker. The company was very successful and, from the 1960s, concentrated their efforts on producing divers watches.

This particular watch has a nice quality stem-winding movement which is working nicely. It is signed with the Doxa name and Swiss made. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is made of gun metal with brass embellishments. The case has light surface marking to the back but overall it is in nice condition for a 1910s piece.

The glass lens has slight nibbling to the edge at 6 o'clock although noticeable to the naked eye but otherwise it is in nice condition.

The signed double sunk white enamel dial has a very faint hairline crack between 3 & 5 o'clock but otherwise it is in nice condition.

The watch has its original blued steel hands.

The watch comes with a single chain, which measures 27cm long including the T bar and clasp.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
