Antique Exactima pocket watch from H Samuel.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in good condition, just surface marks mainly to the hinged case back.
The acrylic lens is in good condition.
The dial is signed Exactima, a name registered by H Samuel in 1920. It has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There are four hairline cracks at the top of the dial.
In 1862 Harriet Samuel took over her father-in-law's clock-making business in Liverpool, she renamed the business H Samuel and moved the business to Manchester's Market Street where she ran the company as a mail order business.
Later on, Harriet’s son concentrated on the retail side of the business, and the first H Samuel retail store opened in Preston in 1890, closely followed by branches in Rochdale and throughout Lancashire. Since then the company has become nationwide with branches in many British High Streets today.
